Isang doktor ang inaresto ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) matapos magbenta ng overpriced na thermal scanner via online. Napag-alaman din na donasyon ang mga ito.

Ayon sa isinagawang imbestigasyon, ibinebenta umano ng suspek na si John Cedric Sarmiento de Castro mula sa Quezon City ang mga thermal scanner sa isang undercover agent.
“We are saddened by this incident, because there are medical front liners who passed on in line of duty and here is someone profiteering from this crisis,” sabi ni NBI Director Eric Distor.
Bukod sa overpriced na pagbebenta, donasyon umano ang mga thermal scanner mula sa iba’t ibang indibidwal at mga kompanya sa isang non-government organization na pinamumunuan din ng suspek.
Ayon naman kay NBI Special Action Unit sa Professional Regulation Commission (PRC), si De Castro ay isang general practitioner at hindi isang dermatologist.
“This will served again a warning to profiteers, that we will go after you, and our efforts are doubled to ensure that no one illegal profits from this crisis,” sabi ni Distor.
Sa pahayag ni Atty. Emeterio Dongallo, hepe ng NBI Special Action Unit, natagpuan ang 150 thermal scanner sa apartment ni De Castro sa 13th Street, Mariana, Quezon City.
Ibinebenta umano ito ng suspek sa halagang P9,350 kada isa.
Haharap si De Castro sa kasong paglabag sa Republic Act No. 7581 dahil sa profiteering at overpricing.
Inamin naman ng suspek na donasyon nga ang mga thermal scanner ng Lions Club chapter sa Quezon City kung saan siya mismo ang president. Ngunit itinanggi niya na pinagkakakitaan niya ang mga ito.
“I decided to sell the donated thermal scanners to convert the proceeds to cash to buy food as well as other essential supplies that I intend to send to Bangar, La Union, where I ran for councilor in the last election,” pahayag pa ng suspek.
